Buried Ending
Versus Entertainment

Maybe one of the more underrated films in this list, Buried is an English/Spanish work written by Chris Sparling, directed by Rodrigo Cortes and starring Ryan Reynolds. Whilst we might know him today as the wise-cracking anti-hero Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds pulls out one of his most dramatic performances as Paul Conroy, a truck driver who finds himself buried alive in a wooden coffin after being attacked.

Armed only with a handful of everyday items, the film is a claustrophic festival, trapping the audience in with Paul as he battles to hold onto his sanity, despite being in a scenario most of us reserve for our worst nightmares. Held by a group of terrorists, the film does a great job in ramping up the tension by showing us the cat-and-mouse negotiations between his captors and the State Department.

The film culminates in truly tragic circumstances however. Paul receives a call from Dan Brenner, head of the Hostage Working Group, who tells him that they are driving out to rescue him after being given his location by the terrorist group. Things begin to take a sinister turn when Paul begins to make out the sound of digging from the other end of the phone, but can't make out anything around him.

You can't quite believe what you're watching, but Buried literally ends with the State opening up the wrong coffin and Paul slowly being left to his fate.
