Netflix's trilogy of horror movies based on R.L. Stine's Fear Street series was a massive hit with critics and audiences alike when it landed in 2021, so it wasn't remotely surprising that they swiftly commissioned more films.

And after a few years of mostly quiet development, Fear Street: Prom Queen was finally released this past May, being rather unceremoniously dropped on the streaming platform without much in the way of marketing.

Even accepting that Prom Night is a standalone 80s-set sequel, it felt like Netflix knew this one wouldn't be holding a candle to the original trilogy of films directed by Leigh Janiak, who didn't return for this installment.

And so, it wasn't at all surprising that Prom Night was largely panned by critics and general audiences alike.

However, that didn't stop it topping Netflix's charts, so it's safe to say the brand still appears to be in good health, with the streamer already busy working on more Fear Street films.
