5. Gurney Lives - Dune: Part Two
The first part of Denis Villeneuve's epic Dune adaptation saw Paul Atreides' (Timothy Chalamet) mentor Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) possibly-maybe become a casualty of the ambush at the hands of the Harkonnen and Sardaukar legions.
We don't see Gurney for the rest of the movie, suggesting that he's perished, and while fans of Frank Herbert's legendary tome will know that Gurney in fact survived, for the many millions new to the world of Dune, Gurney's return in Part Two was certainly a surprise.
Well it would've been, had the later trailers not straight-up shown Gurney back from the dead, while Josh Brolin's name and mug were also plastered over all of the film's posters.
It just seems a bit unnecessary to feature Brolin in the marketing at all, because as much as we love the guy, nobody's going to see Dune: Part Two for him.
What, exactly, is gained by depriving newcomers of experiencing this reveal untarnished?
