10 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Totally Flat

1. Steve Is William Afton - Five Nights At Freddy's

The Flash George Clooney
Universal

Even accepting that Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror movie made for teenagers, that final unmasking is some lazy-ass filmmaking.

Ever since the marketing rollout for the film began, fans have questioned the conspicuous absence of franchise villain William Afton, but let's be honest, who among us didn't peg Matthew Lillard as the twist villain from the first moment they saw him on screen?

Lillard plays a seemingly minor role in the film as Steve Raglan, the career counselor for troubled protagonist Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson).

It's a suspiciously small part in fact, enough that it's blindingly obvious he'll be revealed as the real antagonist later on, and hell, why not make the horror icon William Afton himself?

That's of course precisely what happens, and while Lillard's clearly having fun with the part - he's one of the movie's few bright spots, even - basically zero attempt is made to make this reveal feel in any way surprising.
