Someone give the marketing team a pat on the back. The various trailers and TV spots surrounding David Ayer’s Suicide Squad had it shaping up to me nothing short of a delightfully violent and batsh*t crazy ride into the world’s most devilish squad of anti-heroes.

Yet as critical reviews began to flood in, Suicide Squad was labelled a narrative mess and victim of intrusive studio interference. Nonetheless, along with a charismatic and enthusiastic cast rallying fans support, Suicide Squad spoke to younger audiences and brought in a modest $746 million.

With its imagining of Harley Quinn and Joker providing the inspiration for countless cos-plays and questionable tattoos, Suicide Squad became somewhat of a cult favourite among its various comic book fans. Yet all the same, it has garnered a world of hate from film fanatics with the confidence of the critics behind them; even going as far to spark the need for an embarrassingly quick remake/reboot of the movie just four years later – along with some returning cast members as well.
