10 Recent Movies Ruined By Terrible Endings

5. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods

Shazam! Fury of the Gods was one of the many disappointing superhero sequels released in 2023, and while the bulk of the movie is fine, it craters completely right at the end.

It all goes to pot when Billy Batson (Asher Angel) lays down his life in order to defeat Kalypso (Lucy Liu), but of course, anyone who's seen a movie before is likely aware that Warner Bros. isn't about to kill off the kid hero of their light-hearted, family-friendly superhero franchise.

And so, as hollow as Billy's funeral scene feels, the real crime is the tonally jarring arrival of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) moments later, whose boisterous, sudden appearance - complete with that face-melting theme tune - totally robs the scene of any emotion it might be trying to muster.

Between the perfunctory manner with which Diana brings Billy back to life, and the fact that Gal Gadot very clearly filmed her side of the scene on a blue screen away from everyone else, it's impossible to take this executive-mandated cameo seriously at all.

If the intent was to hype audiences up for future DC adventures - which evidently aren't happening anymore - this was a catastrophically desperate failure.
