6. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
It's fair to say that the fan reception to the eighth and apparently final Mission: Impossible movie has been considerably more mixed than just about anyone expected.
And the film surprisingly wasted no time at all demonstrating just how polarising it would be.
Rather than kick off with a rip-roaring set-piece showcasing Tom Cruise's ongoing commitment to endangering himself for our entertainment, The Final Reckoning begins with an extremely talky opening sequence that serves to summarise Ethan Hunt's heroism throughout the franchise.
It's a glorified clip show, basically, and assures fans from the outset that they're going to be in for a long, slow, excessively chatty ride.
This isn't to say that The Final Reckoning is a bad film overall, and its two back-to-back concluding set-pieces are undeniably outstanding, but as a supposed finale to one of the most celebrated action series ever, it lacks a lot of the flair of its predecessors, largely because of how needlessly verbose and editorially undisciplined it is.
And as much was made clear from the film's flabby opening montage.
