10 Recent Movies That Wasted INCREDIBLE Casts
6. Megalopolis
Francis Ford Coppola's half-century-in-the-making epic sci-fi Megalopolis was finally released recently, and though some critics have flown the flag for the director's madcap late-period roll of the dice, the consensus is that it's a confused mess.
And one of the chief complaints is that Coppola, being one of Hollywood's all-time great filmmakers, managed to secure the services of an unbelievably talented cast, only to do little worthwhile with them.
Megalopolis is led by Adam Driver, who is joined by Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, Jason Schwartzman (Coppola's nephew), Talia Shire (Coppola's sister), James Remar, Balthazar Getty, Chloe Fineman, and Dustin Hoffman.
But once the end credits roll, it's evident that most of the cast likely signed on to work with a titanic filmmaker on what could very well be his last project, rather than the strength of the material.
It's really only Plaza who manages to fully understand the campy assignment, while most of the cast - perhaps through lack of clear direction from Coppola - seems as baffled as much of the audience.
