10 Recent Movies That Were Sent Out To Die
7. Under The Silver Lake
This movie's release history is an absolute mess, and A24 was well aware early on that they would be sending it out to die.
With a wide release in France way back in August 2018 following its premiere in Cannes, it would be 6 months before it would get a quiet release in the United States in April 2019.
The film has been well received by many, but is also pretty inaccessible. It's confusing, bizarre, and arguably disappointing to some.
Under the Silver Lake's release in the United States was pushed back three times, originally slated for a June 2018 release, then December 2018, and eventually April 2019. It made just under $2 million, which is measly even by more artistic indie standards.
The film had such small hopes internationally that the film popped up as an exclusive on streaming service Mubi in the UK, expiring after 30 days. With no wide theatrical release and no permanent streaming placement, the film was doomed thanks to its haywire scheduling issues.
