Alongside his unforgettable work as the galaxy's favourite Jedi Luke Skywalker, legendary thespian Mark Hamill has also become synonymous with another well-known, though much more villainous, face.

Yet, while his captivating chuckles and delivery of some of The Clown Prince of Crime's most chilling lines in the animated sphere have become almost as adored as his aforementioned work in the Star Wars universe, there was actually a moment in time when Hamill's stab at The Joker looked to be a dream too far for the actor.

Despite voicing his desire to play Batman's most infamous villain in the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon, the show had already cast the iconic Tim Curry as the unmistakable clown. Being such a big fan of The Caped Crusader and his rogues' gallery, though, Hamill responded to the news of Curry taking on the role by saying, "well, if anybody else shows up like Hugo Strange or somebody, give me a call."

In the end, what was described as a "tough decision" by show creator Bruce Timm was ultimately made as Curry was eventually dropped on the back of Hamill absolutely smashing his audition for the role.
