Herman Yau's Hong Kong film Ebola Syndrome stars Anthony Wong (of Untold Story fame) as Kai San, the most despicable human being you could hope not to meet. Kai is a chef who kills his boss and his boss wife and flees from the law to South Africa. After a series of events he happens upon a tribe infected with Ebola. In one of the more tasteless scenes of the film the ever charming Kai rapes a dying African woman. As he reaches orgasm, the Ebola infected woman begins convulsing and erupting her own white, milky vomit all over Kai. The madman then repeatedly smashes the woman's cranium with a rock. He ultimately contracts the deadly virus. And while he becomes very ill he miraculously survives to become an Ebola carrier, spreading the disease to anyone who is exposed to his blood, saliva or semen. This film is as nasty and vile as you'd expect, with blacker than black humour smattered throughout the mean spirited proceedings. On the other hand, Ebola Syndrome is as intelligent and artistic as it is controversial and disturbing. If you have even the slightest taste for over the top, graphically violent horror with a sense of humour, this might be the movie for you.
