It takes balls to remake any Alfred Hitchcock film. They're cinematic masterpieces, intense thrillers that earned Hitchcock the title of "Master of Suspense." Gus Van Sant balls must be a pair made from solid steel, because he took on the task of remaking Hitchcock's most famous production, Psycho.

Mixing one of the most recognisable film scores in history with Hitchcock's incredible capabilities as a director and editor, Psycho became an instant classic. The way it framed graphic violence and sexual imagery contributed towards the erosion of the conservative production code, permitting the growth of modern cinema.

The famous shower scene was a showcase of directorial talent, utilising innovative techniques to capture Hitchcock's vision, such as creating the sound of the attack by stabbing a watermelon. Almost eighty different camera angles were used, and fifty cuts were made in post-production to create four minutes of cinematic gold.

In 1998, Gus Van Sant, and his balls of steel, decided to remake Psycho. Unlike other directors, who use new techniques, or add some of their own flair to a film in order to make their mark on the project, Gus Van Sant reshot the film from every single angle that Hitchcock used. The only difference between the two versions, aside from the new cast, is that Van Sant filmed his in colour.

This unimaginative attempt to cash in on Hitchcock's success gained Van Sant nothing but two Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Remake and Worst Director.
