10 Remakes That Totally Outshone The Original
9. The Thing
A short story entitled Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell was the basis for 1951's The Thing from Another World. Its central premise follows a group of scientists in the arctic trying to stop a vicious alien from reaching civilization. This movie did very well indeed and has been considered among the best science fiction films of the 1950s.
That was a very tough act to try to follow, but John Carpenter did just that in 1982.
Originally a commercial and critical flop, the film is significantly more graphic and definitely not for everyone. But, despite its humble opening, in the years since it has been reevaluated as a masterpiece of both the science fiction and horror genres.
With a cast led by Kurt Russell, The Thing has been particularly hailed for its suspenseful and paranoid atmosphere along with its visuals.
