10 Remakes That Totally Outshone The Original
8. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
Sheila Burnford's 1961 novel The Incredible Journey has been tugging at the heartstrings of readers for decades. The story of three dedicated pets - two dogs and a cat - going on a treacherous adventure to be reunited with their family is an emotional roller coaster. Disney's 1963 film adaptation has also been loved by many for almost as long.
Even with that established, the remake released 30 years later entitled Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey has often been regarded as the better of the two. While other points of emphasis have included its pacing, for many what really sets the remake apart from the original was the decision in voice casting.
Whereas in the first movie the journey of the three beloved animals was narrated by Rex Allen, the 1993 take featured Don Ameche, Michael J. Fox and Sally Field giving voice to the animal characters. Changing the movie's point of view from third person to first person, so to speak, seems so simple yet so massive at the same time.
A sequel, Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco, was also received relatively well, if not as much so as its predecessors.
