Monster is a 2003 biographical film about serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a former prostitute who suffered from numerous mental disorders which led to her murdering seven men before being caught and executed.

As noted in the introduction, Charlize Theron is known for her good looks, but for Monster she put on 30 pounds, shaved her eyebrows and wore a set of false teeth, completely changing her appearance.

Critics praised her performance, both for her physical transformation and for her chillingly accurate portrayal of Wuornos, giving a realistic insight into her antisocial personality disorder and borderline personality disorder. Unsurprisingly, she won a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actress for the role. She also won a Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild award.

With that level of dedication to her art, it's almost disappointing she didn't slice off an arm for Fury Road.
