10 Ridiculous Comic Book Castings (That Actually Totally Worked)

1. Heath Ledger - The Joker (The Dark Knight)

Why It Was Ridiculous: Heath Ledger's career was just beginning to gain traction in the mid-2000s when he was cast as The Joker. He had become known to many as the handsome star of 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale, and began to be taken seriously with an Oscar nomination for 2005's Brokeback Mountain, but still, how would this extremely handsome young man be able to capture the dark, ugly essence of Batman's most popular and feared enemy? The Result: Easily the best performance in any comic book movie, to the extent that Ledger was posthumously awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Need I say anymore? You can trawl through message board archives yourselves to find dozens of discussions about how Ledger was going to butcher the character, only for that talk to do a total 180 once the first trailer hit the net, and once again when the film was out in the wild. Truly, if Ledger could turn around so much vitriol, perhaps an actor of Jesse Eisenberg's caliber doesn't need to worry either. Are there any ridiculous castings I missed? What's your take on Mark Zuckerberg playing Lex Luthor? Shout it out in the comments!
