10 Ridiculous Comic Book Castings (That Actually Totally Worked)

Jesse Eisenberg Lex Luthor Another day goes by and another scandal hits the highly-anticipated production of Batman vs Superman. We've had Ben Affleck's casting as Batman, a 10-month delay, and now the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth. Though the latter is really a pretty strong choice, the net nerds were out in force on Friday night, decrying what they saw as yet another casting misstep in this highly ambitious showdown between two of comic lore's most treasured superheroes. The jury will naturally remain out on Eisenberg for a while, but it got me thinking: which other films were met with controversial, even seemingly ridiculous casting decisions? More to the point, what about when those crazy gambles actually paid off, and we were all proven wrong? Most of us will agree that, say, Topher Grace was a poor casting choice for Eddie Brock aka Venom on Spider-Man 3, but to be fair to the producers of most of these types of movies, the gambles have worked just as much (if not more) than they haven't. And of course, feel free to disagree (particularly about the one pictured above, as I know many of you will want to) and suggest your own in the comments!
