10 Ridiculous Complaints About Upcoming Movies That Need To Die
9. Eddie Murphy - Beverly Hills Cop 4
Ironically, the star who made Beverley Hills Cop (and its sequels with increasingly poorer returns) is now the biggest concern for most of the naysayers who want the franchise to stay ended. Unfortunately for the former funny man, some of those concerns and criticisms are well placed: this is, after all, the same Eddie Murphy who thought Meet Dave and Norbit were good ideas. But Murphy's talent is not up for question, even if his decision-making is; he proved with his scene-stealing turn in Dreamgirls that he's still great to watch, and there was even something in his performance in Tower Heist that suggested the old fires still burn strongly. If there's a real issue to be concerned about with Beverly Hills Cop, it shouldn't be the return of the hero: it should be the suggestion by director Brett Ratner (himself a massive red flag) that the film could be aimed at a younger audience. Murphy's commitment to returning to edgier characters might be at odds with that, and the move to Detroit might make it impossible, but it still doesn't mean Ratner's suggestion isn't still chilling for franchise fans.
