10 Ridiculous Harry Potter Fan Theories (That Might Just Be True)

6. Crookshanks Is Regulus Black

Due to the existence of animagi in the world of Harry Potter, any animal character €“ and their potential human secret identity €“ is bound to be discussed at length on fan forums. One such theory that has a certain air of truth to it is that Crookshanks, Hermione€™s annoying ginger cat, might actually be Regulus Black, Sirius€™ brother. The first clue is in the name €“ they€™re both named after constellations. Sirius, in astrology parlance, is known as the Dog Star. Aptly, the wizard Sirius transforms into a big black dog. Regulus is the name of a star, too, in the constellation of Leo, which is popularly symbolised by a cat. And now, what sounds like a silly theory suddenly makes a lot of sense. Another clue is that Crookshanks consistently tries to kill Scabbers, later revealed to be Voldemort€™s loyal follower Peter Pettigrew. Perhaps Regulus €“ in cat disguise €“ was trying to protect the main characters for Peter, all along. Some big questions remain, though. How did the thought-dead Regulus come to be in Hermione€™s possession? And why did he never reveal himself? Wouldn€™t someone have spotted him on The Marauders Map? Regardless of these holes, this remains a fun theory that almost fits.
