10 Ridiculous Movie Moments That Made Everyone Irrationally Angry

7. Brad Pitt To The Rescue - 12 Years A Slave

Brad Pitt was a producer on the film and appeared in (what could be classified as a cameo) the Best Picture winner. The movie is based off the memoir of Solomon Northup, a free black man from New York kidnapped and sold into southern slavery.

Pitt’s Samuel Bass meets Northup and learns of his unlawful slavery. Risking his life and Northup’s, he writes to those up north to come and rescue the slave, as per Solomon’s beg. The plan comes to fruition and Northup is finally brought home.

Many thought that Pitt embodied the stereotype of “the white savior;” a Caucasian who comes to the rescue of an African-American in need of help. As sad as it is, it’s a true story. Northup did need help and in mid-1800’s America, a white man may have been the only man who could.

Pitt’s star-power was distracting, but it never quite took away from the powerfulness of the climax. To not like the scene is fine, but to claim it as bad writing is ludicrous as it’s not a thought-up resolution; it’s reality.
