10 Ridiculous Movie Plots That Sound Like Fan Fiction (But Are Real)
3. Jigsaw
One common fan fiction trope is the use of nonlinear narrative. Bringing in characters that connect with plots points mentioned years ago in long-running franchises. It’s a way many writers on the internet bring back characters that passed or actors they miss in long-running television series.
It’s confusing to use this kind of complex trope, and many franchises do their best to stay away from the concept. The Saw franchise is not one of those franchises. The entire film franchise jumps back and forth recalling old characters and giving them new chances despite their presumed death.
Jigsaw gives one of the most prominent examples of this idea: Logan. Turns out he survives a trap many presumed he died from a long time ago. It’s an odd trick in the narrative that didn’t too much for viewers and couldn’t revive a flat story.
Think of this like the fan fiction that inserts the writer into the story. They want so badly to create the own character and belong to the franchise that they shoe horn themselves in the plot line somewhere. Logan is exactly that character and what's worse his past doesn't even make much sense logistically. Jigsaw doesn't forgive people for honest mistakes, but apparently Logan is special for no apparent reason.
