10 Ridiculous Performances That Totally Derailed A Movie
3. Sofia Coppola (The Godfather Part III)
The all time great example of Hollywood nepotism at its finest. When Winona Ryder fell ill just before she was due to play Michael Corleone's daughter Mary, director Francis Ford Coppola decided to replace her with his own daughter, Sofia (best known today for her work behind the camera), rather than actually look for an experienced actress for such a pivotal role. The result is a laughable performance, both due to her complete lack of chemistry with romantic interest Andy Garcia and her totally flat, tone-deaf emotions, particularly when she is shot in the climactic scene and falls to her knees before flatly robotically uttering "Dad?" on her way to dropping dead. The only thing that saves the scene is Al Pacino's performance. The Godfather Part III is already everyone's least favourite film in the series, and though it's not as bad as many make out, Coppola's performance was probably for many the final nail in the coffin, enough for fans of the original two films to say, "Alright, I'm out".
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
