3. Why Not Operate The Jaegers Remotely? - Pacific Rim
The Movie: Guillermo del Toro's big robot fight movie follows a down and out rookie and his hot new Japanese partner as they face of against Kaiju, giant Godzilla-like monsters hellbent on destroying humanity because that's what big scary creatures like that were born to do, of course.
The Plot Hole: You could certainly argue with the notion that this is a "plot hole," as it's never explained in the movie, but hear me out: in a world where giant, mechanical robots are built to face off against giant monsters, surely (surely!) there's a way to design a Jaeger that can be operated remotely? Those skilled pilots can do all that "drifting" stuff they love so much, but just from a much safer place. As in: not inside the robot. The fact that our heroes are constantly getting bashed around and occasionally killed because they're inside these Jaegers suggests that the government should have found a way to address the dangers: the risk associated with being a Jaeger pilot would be next to nothing if it were possible for them to operate from afar - given the technology on show, I think it's fair to suggest that Idris Elba and friends could have made such a thing happen.
