10 Ridiculous Stories Behind 2020 Movies
3. Invisible Man Loses Vision - The Invisible Man
Not to break the cinematic illusion, but the titular Invisible Man obviously wasn't actually invisible during filming. It was just someone in a green bodysuit. So, to hide them seamlessly, the bodysuit had to go over their head and completely cover their face. As you probably can guess, this was a recipe for awkwardness.
And it took next to no time for the awkward to manifest. The first time the suit was called upon, it was for a shot where bodysuit-guy jumped out of a cabinet before reaching up and grabbing a knife from the counter. Seems simple enough right? Until you remember that bodysuit-guy can't actually see a thing.
As soon as director Leigh Whannell shouted action, bodysuit-guy did manage to get out of the cabinet as planned. Things quickly turned sideways after that as he spent ages feeling around the counter for the knife. Everyone behind the camera reacted to this by retreating slowly into a facepalm until it all got too much. Whannell eventually had to yell cut to put the crew out of the misery and laughs it out, which I imagine took some time.
Needless to say, major adjustments were made to help bodysuit-guy move after that.
