10 Ridiculous Times Horror Movie Franchises Jumped The Shark
6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Leatherface Dance
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 plays less like a movie and more like a practical joke. It's directed by Tobe Hooper, the man responsible for the original classic, yet it is nothing like that first movie in tone.
The original Texas Chainsaw was praised for feeling gritty and realistic, which makes sense as it was based on the real life murders of Ed Gein. The sequel will probably try to keep that realism, right? Nope. Instead, it's basically a straight up comedy. The opening scene features two loud mouthed idiot kids driving down the road when Leatherface comes out of nowhere riding on the top of a pickup truck and chainsaws both of them while the car is still moving. What the hell? Later, there's a scene where Dennis Hopper's character runs into Leatherface's house with a bunch of chainsaws strapped to him, because that's an awesome plan.
The whole thing reeks of camp, but there's one part of it that really stands out: Leatherface is constantly dancing. In the original he'd swing his chainsaw around over his head a bit, but this time, before he kills someone he stands there and dances around like an idiot for a few seconds. What is happening here? It feels as if Hooper was forced into doing a sequel, and out of spite, he decided to put out the dumbest thing he could imagine.
