10 Ridiculous Times Horror Movie Franchises Jumped The Shark

4. Tremors - The Ass Blasters

The original Tremors still holds up as a fun monster movie that mixed in comedy without getting too ridiculous. Even the sequel wasn't a complete waste despite being straight to DVD, so maybe Tremors had a chance as a franchise?

By Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, the series was doomed. The previous movie had already introduced the idea of the Graboids having multiple transformations over the course of their life cycle, which was a decent idea. In Tremors 2, the second stage was the shrieker, these little bird-like creatures with three-toed legs. That's acceptable, even though it kind of strays from what was great about the first movie. In Tremors 3, it's revealed that the third and final stage of the life cycle is something called the Ass Blaster.

The Ass Blasters are winged creatures that can launch themselves into the air by...farting. Seriously. They plant their feet on the ground, make some gross sound you might hear in a public restroom, and an explosion from their ass sends them through the air. Technically some chemical reaction is supposed to be happening, but obviously the writers knew exactly what it looked like. It was clearly intended to be funny, but it's just super lame, and a series that had blended horror and comedy really well had now based an entire life cycle of its main species off a fart joke.
