10 Ridiculous Upcoming Movie Performances That Sound Like Jokes
6. Pretty Much Everyone Involved - Blazing Samurai
It's difficult to know where to start with this, but here goes. It's an animated remake of Blazing Saddles called Blazing Samurai, but starring animals instead of, you know, samurai. It features voice work from Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ricky Gervais as a dog, a cat, and another cat, respectively.
At a glance, this film sounds like a joke; a cruel but very intentional joke designed to show us that the movie industry has run out of ideas. But it's 2017 and so it isn't a joke, is it? Instead, a team of animators spent thousands of hours on this.
How does a movie of this kind manifest? Somebody pitches a samurai remake of Blazing Saddles, but with Japanese iconography and animal characters and it's green-lit? Every role in this movie is inherently bizarre; Michael Cera's "Hank," a dog who wants to learn the ways of the samurai; Samuel L. Jackson as "Jimbo/The Kyoto Cat," his shamed mentor; Ricky Gervais, for some reason, as "Ika Chu," the Deputy Senior Executive Regional Warlord of the Shogun.
What is going on, please?
