4. Upgrade - Jawbreaker
Want to know what 2018's Venom would have looked like had Sony decided to actually follow through with a rated R symbiote? Then treat yourself to the Leigh Whannel directed Upgrade.
Upgrade sees Grey Trace (Logan Marshall-Green... coincidentally Tom Hardy's doppleganger) becoming paralysed after he is attacked by a group of men post-self-driving-car crash. His wife is also murdered by those very same attackers in the exchange.
However, Trace's client Eron Kreen (Harrison Gilbertson) had just created a multi-purposed chip known as STEM which could actually help the protagonist walk again. So, Trace took him up on the offer to have the implant installed and STEM restored his ability to stand on his own two feet.
STEM's true potential is revealed soon after, though, when Trace breaks into Serk Brantner's (one of the attackers) home.
After getting his ass handed to him for a spell by Brantner, STEM offers to aid Trace and all hell then breaks loose.
STEM systematically dismantles Brantner, with Trace simply acting as a vessel and having no control over what his body is actually doing. It's both hilarious and deeply unnerving. Yet, the climax of the scene takes those conflicting feelings to another level when STEM uses Trace's body to pull a knife through Brantner's face.
Trace seems as shocked as we all are at the carnage which has just gone down in front of his very eyes and we more than forgive him for throwing up soon after.
