10 Ridiculously Overused Movie Locations

4. Monument Valley

Monument Valley is an absolutely beautiful location situated on the Arizona-Utah state line, and is best remembered by film buffs for its use in countless John Ford westerns over the period of his career. The director shot scenes there in 9 of his films, most famously The Searchers, and because of this, imagery like the above has become synonymous with what people think of when they imagine the Myth of the Old West. In a knowing nod to this, Marty McFly ends up time-travelling there by accident during Back to the Future Part III. Stanley Kubrick also used it in disguised, manipulated form in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and it's made appearances in both Forrest Gump and Mission: Impossible 2 (Tom Cruise climbs it during the opening set piece) as well. onceupontrailercover We can look forward to seeing it back on our cinema screens this summer, as the dreadful-looking Gore Verbinski/Johnny Depp flick The Lone Ranger was largely filmed there and in the surrounding area. At least the film will look nice...
