10 Ridiculously Overused Movie Songs

3. Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMbATaj7Il8 Similar in its tonal use to Bad to the Bone, Steppenwolf's 1960s tune is perfectly for making a character seem like a total badass, or at least it was 40 years ago. In the interim, it's been used in Borat, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Herbie Fully Loaded, Dr Doolittle 2, Recess: School€™s Out, D3: The Mighty Ducks, Problem Child, and Robocop 2. Its most famous use is unquestionably in Dennis Hopper's counter-cultural classic Easy Rider, and despite originally being just a placeholder song, it was felt that it suited the tone of the film so well that to remove it would have been a huge mistake. I didn't see Easy Rider for the first time until a few years ago, so I had to remind myself that it was cinema's inaugural use of the song, as otherwise it'd be easy to think the film was just another soulless imitator.
