Okay yes, so Deep Rising director Stephen Sommers' 1999 remake of the classic early Universal monster movie The Mummy was a major blockbuster, no arguing with those box office receipts.

But there's no getting around the fact that the film was and is still critically underrated, with many reviewers at the time dismissing it as a disposable piece of cinematic fluff, another forgettable summer blockbuster like so many others.

In reality, this perfectly balanced cocktail of humour, horror, tension, and action has proven an enduring influence on everything from the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy movies and their boy's own adventure tone to the subversive, sparky self-aware comedic dialogue of the Avengers films.

Not to mention catapulting its superb stars Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser to deserved superstardom, but that's a story for a list of underrated actors...
