The plot synopsis for New Years Eve has a bunch of Hollywood actors - who like to get paid well for a few days work agreeing to bit parts in a fluffy, tedious rom-com thats sadly guaranteed to be a hit. Thats not the actual plotline, but it would be a more honest one. In De Niros segment, he plays a dying man who wants to live long enough to break in the New Year, while his daughter Hilary Swank is overseeing the famous New York ball drop. Will she see him in time, and will you even care if she does? De Niros section isnt so bad compared to the rest of the movie, but its still a load of sentimental pap. De Niro was so bored on set that he fell asleep while filming a scene; no one could blame him. The movie shamelessly tugs at your heartstrings with each storyline, trying desperately to make the audience feel moved. Since it was arguably the worst movie of 2011, most people were probably only moved enough to ask for their money back.
