6. Machete
The fake trailer for Machete was the highlight of Grindhouse, and packed more laughs and entertainment into two minutes than Tarantino managed with his entire section. The response was so positive that Robert Rodriquez made a whole film out of it, but the magic was lost in translation since the final movie was a sloppy mess. De Niro plays the role of a seedy, racist senator who fakes an assassination attempt so he can get elected. He's clearly just having some fun in the part, though its a damn long way from his finest work. Machete itself is a total dud that feels like it was mostly made up on the spot; plus it suffers from severe ADD because it can never focus on one character or plotline for longer than three minutes. Machete himself is a side character in this own movie, and even the action scenes are dull; sorry Robert, you peaked too early with the bungee rope made of intestines.
