10 Rules For Surviving Action Movies
8. Always Make Sure The Lead Henchman Is Dead
Any respectable action movie villain usually has an Alpha henchman, who marks an upgrade from the reams of faceless goons that can be taken out single-handedly due to the simple fact that they actually put up a bit of a fight. Just make sure they're really dead.
Die Hard is the best example of this, with John McClane's failure to check that Karl was definitely out of the picture almost resulting in a bullet for his troubles, before Sergeant Al Powell saves the day. Men in Black also repeated the trick, with Agents J and K also being spared from a life as bug food by a third party.
In what seems to be the hierarchy of hired guns, to ascend to the role of lead henchman you must presumably display undying loyalty to your boss without asking any question as well as passing the job interview, which seems to have given them an extra life in the annals of action cinema.
If there's a henchman that has any sort of personality or a defining physical characteristic, make sure they're definitely not going to cause any more trouble before moving onto the movie's end-of-level boss.
