10 Rules For Surviving Action Movies

4. Never Lock The Bad Guy In A Clear Prison

Skyfall Villain
MGM/Columbia Pictures

Not only does locking a bad guy in a clear prison give them the chance to have a heart-to-heart with one or more of the main characters without those pesky bars ruining the shot, it also gives a clear sign that a theatrically-planned escape is imminent, one that always ends with collateral damage as several faceless subordinates are taken out along the way.

As we've seen in X-Men 2, The Avengers, Star Trek Into Darkness and Skyfall, the villain usually has the chance to give a lengthy monologue that explains their reasoning and justification for wanting to kill everyone before it turns out... they wanted to be captured all along!

While nobody important to the plot usually winds up dead from the subsequent jailbreak, spare a thought for those unfortunate souls who don't even get a name in the credits that wind up on the receiving end of the inevitable escape.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
