The Contessa has been described as a character who just stepped out of a James Bond poster. She featured prominently throughout Jim Sterankos run on the comic Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., as Furys love interest. In her first encounter with Fury, she tossed him with a judo throw after he made a derogatory comment about female agents. Steranko's run on Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., is widely recognised as one of the best interpretations of Nick Fury and of S.H.I.E.L.D. Through this comic, Steranko popularised the use of surrealism and op art in comics. Steranko also used many cinematic techniques in the comic. Steranko himself went on to be involved in cinema as a conceptual artist on Raiders of the Lost Ark. Marvel should consider very closely the elements that made Steranko's comic so good. Part of that consideration should include The Contessa Valentina. Valentina would make a great addition to a S.H.I.E.L.D. series by bringing in a James Bond-style international espionage element. She would also show a different side to Fury by showing him as a man. She would also show that Fury is not an immovable object; he can be influenced by the right person.
