10 Saddest Deaths In Horror Movie History

4. Carrie White - Carrie

Nightmare On Elm Street 3 ending
United Artists

In what we promise will be the last entry to come from the mind of Stephen King, the tragic downfall of the titular teenager from his debut novel is arguably the most emotional death the author has crafted, depicted faithfully in Brian De Palma's 1976 film.

Starring Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, the two-time Oscar-nominated film introduced us to the introverted highschooler, bullied for her highly religious beliefs forced on her by her domineering mother (Piper Laurie). Little do her tormentors know (including a young John Travolta in his second film appearance) that Carrie has telekinetic powers; powers she uses to enact revenge on those who wronged her when she becomes victim to a viscous prank at prom.

Despite her malicious actions during the climax, the point is that Carrie was never the monster; she was forced to become one. It's this sympathetic portrayal of Carrie that makes her last actions so heart-breaking. Returning home where she's confronted by her mother who she kills in self defence, Carrie's revenge is brought to an end when she brings down her house with her and her mother inside.

Had she not suffered so much, Carrie would've had a far happier ending.
