10 Saddest Deaths In Horror Movie History
3. Frank - 28 Days Later
Within a sub-genre populated with more entries than a horde of flesh-eaters, a common trope that's become part of the zombie movie is having one character watch someone close to them become infected after being bitten. However, the saddest example of this trope came during Danny Boyle's acclaimed 28 Days Later.
Reviving the zombie film for modern cinema-goers, 28 Days Later follows the plight of a group of survivors as they attempt to find salvation from the zombie-infested streets whilst coping with the collapse of their past lives. Hope seems to be within reach when the group meet Frank (Brendan Gleeson) and his daughter Hannah (Megan Burns) who offer to take them to safety in their cab. Sadly, fate has a much crueller plan in store.
Reaching a deserted checkpoint, Frank becomes infected when blood drips into his eye. Like Hannah, our only option is to look on in disbelief as he turns. Before the others can kill him, soldiers shoot without hesitation.
It's a powerful moment that comes out of nowhere, and it's all the better for it.
