4. The Horned King's Army Of Darkness - The Black Cauldron (1985)
The Black Cauldron is a lesser known Disney flick which performed poorly at the box office, perhaps due its PG rating and ominous material. If you thought Night on Bald Mountain was scary, its a cake-walk compared to this dark fantasy tale. The Horned King - voiced by original Alien victim John Hurt - would make even Chernabog want to sleep with a nightlight on. His voice is sinister, his face is reminiscent of Skeletors, and he wears antlers on his head (lending to his name). The most frightening moment of all comes when he makes a sacrifice to the Black Cauldron and raises the spirits of the dead. Skeletal remains rise from pits, carrying swords and shields, and march across the screen in a blur of bones and groans. This all occurs while the protagonist and friends are tied up. There's also a particularly chilling moment when the Horned King leans toward the screen, getting too close for comfort, and says in his satanic voice, "Arise my messengers of death. Our time has arrived..."
