6. Evil Ash Attacks - Evil Dead II
Sam Raimi put his love of visually creative slapstick comedy to good use throughout Evil Dead II, and perhaps no better than in the film's brilliantly creative mirror scene which introduced audiences to Evil Ash (Bruce Campbell).
As Ash looks at himself in the mirror, his "reflection" reaches through, grabs him and taunts him - "We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound 'fine?'"
Evil Ash then attempts to strangle his regular self, before Ash steps back and realises that he's actually throttling himself.
The scene was achieved through an ingenious array of practical trickery, namely an over-the-shoulder body double for Bruce Campbell and sneaky set changes between cuts.
The end result is basically completely seamless, and serves as a testament to the resourceful solutions so often rustled up on low-budget genre productions.
