10 Scariest Horror Movie Mirror Scenes

2. The Face Peel Nightmare - Poltergeist

Poltergeist is already one of the most atmospheric and unsettling studio horror films of the '80s without even getting into its all-timer scene involving a mirror.

The decidedly-not-PG scene included in this bafflingly PG-rated movie involves Marty (Martin Casella) experiencing a horrifying hallucination in front of the bathroom mirror.

He notices a small cut on his face and begins to pick at it, but ends up ripping his entire face off, his flesh plopping into the sink and eventually revealing the skeletal remains beneath, before he thankfully snaps out of it.

Considering how totally unexpected and revoltingly gory the scene is, it's basically the most inspired and effective use of a mirror in horror movie history, if understandably traumatising for any youngsters in the audience.
