10 Scariest Horror Movie Scenes Of All Time

3. The Strangers - Home Intruder

If your biggest fear is being stalked or a home invasion, this isn’t the film for you, and this scene explains why.

In The Strangers, couple Kristen and James are staying at James’ family holiday home, where he spent most of his summers growing up. The couple are on the brink of separation, thinking that their evening will be awkward because of this.

In classic horror fashion, the holiday home is in the middle of nowhere, so when Kristen and James hear slow knocking at their door, they get suspicious.

When they open the door, a creepy girl asks if Tamara is home, and before being sent away, she tells the couple she will “see them later”. This, by far, could’ve been the scariest scene in the film if it weren’t for the one that followed.

James goes out to buy cigarettes and the creepy girl returns, but Kristen realises something isn’t right. We then cut to a wide shot of Kristen walking around the house and a masked figure watching her as she moves around.

Unknowingly having someone break into your house and just watching you plays on an untapped fear that almost every human being has, and is why this scene has quickly become one of the most terrifying in horror history.
