10 Scariest Horror Movie Vampires

4. Marlow - 30 Days Of Night

30 Days of Night dared to make Vampires monsters again. One of the issues that beloved TV Show Buffy The Vampire Slayer had brought to the mythos was that, by the time the show had wrapped, Vampires simply weren't frightening anymore. They were more human than anything. The Vampires in this film were anything but.

While Marlow, played by Danny Huston, leads his pack of Vampires through the Alaskan town that has been shut down for a month by Polar Winter, the band of humans that are trapped make for believable victims and townspeople, picked off one by one as they go.

There is a genuine sense of menace to these creatures. There is no hope for communication or understanding. They bark at each other in their own demonic language. They lay traps and they slaughter people without regard for pain or suffering. There is no explanation of their origin and it is only as the month comes to its close that they begin to burn the town down, ready to cover their tracks and move on.

While the film is, overall, a slightly mixed affair in terms of execution, the depiction of the Vampire hoard as these merciless beasts was a sharp turn from the near-cuddly Vampires that audiences were growing more and more used to seeing.

These guys don't want to sleep with you. They want to eat you.
