10 Scariest Horror Movies Set At Halloween

Dark Night Of The Scarecrow
Motion International

Being goths it’s pretty much Halloween all year round for macabre-obsessed teenage sisters Ginger and Brigitte who spend their time mooching about their boring suburban neighbourhood doing typical teen goth stuff like wearing a lot of black, hating on their high school peers and taking arty photographs of each other staging their deaths in various gruesome ways.

It’s while out doing the latter one full-mooned evening that Ginger unfortunately gets her first period just before being bitten by a werewolf and thus begins her month-long lycanthropic transformation. As Ginger is beset by body hair, a wolf tail and a growing bloodlust that coincides with a few neighbourhood disappearances, Brigitte rushes to find a cure before the next moon falls. Which just so happens to be on Halloween, naturally.

Mixing feminist body horror and werewolf myth, the movie wryly and cleverly (and gorily) parallels Ginger’s metamorphosis into a genuinely terrifying she-wolf with her coming of age culminating in a grisly Halloween bloodbath that’ll satisfy any gore-hound. As brilliant and funny as it is blood-splattered, it’s quite possibly the best werewolf horror since The Howling.
