10 Scariest Mad Scientists In Horror Movies

6. Seth Brundle - The Fly

With Jeff Goldblum's roles in Jurassic Park, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Independence Day, the Hollywood star proves he has a talent for portraying sexy scientists.

But as can be seen in David Cronenberg's remake of The Fly, Goldblum has a skill for playing mad scientists as well. In the film, Goldblum plays Seth Brundle - a molecular physicist who is trying to teleport living matter through transportation pods. Although he successfully teleports himself from one pod to another, a fly enters the device at the last second, causing his DNA to slowly fuse with the insect. At first, this accident feels like a blessing since Brundle is endowed superstrength, reflexes, and agility. But as the mutation continues, he deteriorates into a monster, both physically and mentally.

Realising that his devolution is driving his lover, Veronica, away, he attempts to use the telepods to fuse her and her unborn child with him so they can be together forever. Despite the fact Brundle was a genuinely nice man before his accident, his desperation to be accepted as a monster drove him completely mad.
