10 Scariest Mad Scientists In Horror Movies

5. Adrian Griffin - The Invisible Man

The Human Centipede First Sequence

The 2020 remake of HG Wells' The Invisible Man kicks off with Cecilia Kass leaving her abusive partner, Adrian Griffin. At first, Cecilia is terrified he will track her down but is relieved (and a little confused) when she hears Adrian has ended his life.

But as she is hunted by an unseen force, Cecilia deduces that Adrian has used his optic engineering technology to create an light-cancelling suit, and wears it to attack her, physically and mentally.

Adrian's insanity is highlighted, not just by what he does but by what he doesn't do. His cloaking device is one of the most advanced forms of technology on Earth. By sharing his life's work with society or selling it to the highest bidder, Adrian would be guaranteed untold riches and a reputation as a visionary.

Instead of using his invisible suit for the good of mankind, his top priority is to destroy his ex's life. The fact that Cecilia's misery means more to him than changing the world for the better or earning billions of dollars shows just how far Adrian's psychosis goes.
