10 Scariest Movies Made By Disney
7. Bambi (1942)
Whilst Bambi seems innocent and sweet on the surface, it is perhaps one of the darkest films Disney ever produced. It’s most well known for the tragic death of Bambi’s mother – both sad and terrifying in equal measures.
Whilst the titular character and his mother are grazing on grass, the two are ambushed by “Man” in the forest. It’s an intense build up with the simplistic, yet haunting three-note theme playing underneath as the two literally run for their lives.
Whilst most people know of the mother's demise, it is a very shocking, unexpected death on first viewing. Even scarier, the Man is never visible on screen, so his threat is greater amplified.
However, as the hunting scene is so memorable, it often eclipses the movie’s other impactful moments. The scene where the animals must escape the dangerous forest fire is vividly animated and accompanied by a haunting underscore to create a seriously intense climax. It’s a heart-racing moment as Bambi, his father and other creatures just barely manage to get to safe land.
Moreover, the story of Bambi can be quite chilling because it’s one of the most realistic depictions of forest life for nature, one which doesn’t hold back on the harsh realities that come with it.
