10 Scariest Natural Disaster Movies You Need To See

With the recent release of Twisters, now's an ideal time to look back on the original's legacy.

That '90s classic was directly responsible for making an entire generation develop a fervent phobia of tornadoes overnight. Even people who live in countries devoid of natural disasters were scared out of their wits after seeing this dreaded cyclone unmake an entire town.

One reason Twister stands out is how the whirlwind is treated like a character rather than a force of nature. The way it seemingly follows the storm-chasers gives the impression it has a mind of its own and is voluntarily pursuing its prey. This way, the heroes' relationship with the destructive storm doesn't just come across as scary but personal, and how the tornado growls as it eviscerates everything in its path makes Twister feel more like a creature feature than a disaster flick.

Also, every character credibly sells how chaotic this threat is. And considering the storm-chasers refer to the F5 as an unsurvivable "finger of God", you know it's time to run when that storm starts brewing in the distance.
