10 Scariest PG Rated Movies EVER MADE

6. Invasion of the Body Snatchers

It's Alive
United Artists

Whilst not as explicitly gory as many of the flicks listed here, 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a shocking inclusion on the PG rated list for another reason.

Starring Donald Sutherland as a man desperately and futilely attempting to stop the eponymous monsters from taking over society, this gloomy paranoid sci fi is definitely the darkest and bleakest PG film ever.

With a brutally downbeat ending, the film is suffused with the hopeless atmosphere of seventies sci fi wherein institutions are untrustworthy, authorities are incompetent, average civilians are mindlessly blind to countless horrors, and there's no defeating the relentless crushing takeover.

So maybe not a great family film night pick, then.

Cathal Gunning hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
