10 Scariest PG Rated Movies EVER MADE

2. Poltergeist

It's Alive
United Artists

Directed by master of horror and Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper, the 1982 horror masterpiece Poltergeist brought ghosts to suburbia and brought the Toolbox Murders helmer into contact with ET director Stephen Spielberg, who produced (and according to some, sort-of-directed) this haunted house flick.

Together at last, the unlikely pairing produced a surprisingly scary and at times seriously shocking slice of hokey horror which somehow managed to nab a PG rating despite some terrifying scenes.

Later remade (not as badly as many claim) by Monster House helmer Gil Kenan, this one is a stone cold classic which deserved its critical acclaim, but thanks to the face tearing sequence alone, definitely didn't deserve a PG rating.
